Friday, Dec 5th --Read James 5:1-8
1) Taken by their self some people could say that these verses teach that no rich people will be saved. But, does the Bible as a whole teach that all rich people will be eternally lost (Hint: see 1 Tim 6:17-19).
2) What do you think is James’ main concern in writing these verses? Do you personally share James’ concern?
3) Read what James says about the wealthy in 1:9-11. When you compare these verses with the ones assigned today what appears to be James attitude towards worldly wealth?
4) Read the following verses in which some of Jesus’ comments about wealth are recorded: Matthew 6:19-24 and Matthew 19:16-30. Why do you think Jesus’ thoughts about wealth or the wealthy appear to be so negative or pessimistic? Is Jesus saying to possess money (even lots of money!) is wrong in and of itself? If not, what do you think He is concerned about?
5) How do you think James and Jesus’ thoughts about wealth should challenge you, who live in such a wealthy nation?
Saturday, Dec 6th Reread James chapter 4:
1) After rereading this chapter in James jot down a few areas mentioned in this chapter that you desperately would like to grow in. Also pray after you get done writing, that God will help you grow in these areas.
